Lady Eagles advance to semis

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Nov. 8, 2008) – The Oklahoma Christian University women's soccer team fought off the cold and Rogers State University to advance to the semifinals of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament.

Stephanie Duncan scored twice to lead the Lady Eagles to the 2-1 quarterfinal win in a rematch of last year's conference championship game.

The Lady Eagles came out shooting, taking 12 shots in the first half, four of them on goal.

Just before halftime, Duncan scored her 13th goal of season to put the Lady Eagles on top 1-0.

RSU struck back early in the second half when Tiffany Roberts got the ball past OC goalkeeper Lisa Jorgensen on a breakaway to tie the game at 1-1.

But seven minutes later, Duncan answered with her 14th goal of the season. The Lady Eagles dominated the rest of the game, taking another 12 shots in the second half – eight of them on goal – to end RSU's season.

Duncan and Heather Spencer led the team with four shots on goal apiece. Teammate Emma Cole recorded three shots on goal.

Jorgensen only faced seven shots, with only two on goal, and made one save.

The win moves the Lady Eagles' record to 11-7-1 and earns them a berth in the SAC tournament semifinals against top-seeded Oklahoma City University on Tuesday. The game will begin at 6 p.m. at OCU's Stars Field.

Oklahoma Christian won 2-1 at OCU in last year's SAC quarterfinals.
