Lady Eagles kick off 2007 with victory

The Oklahoma Christian University women's soccer team went to 1-0 on the year with a 5-0 shutout victory over Northwood University (Texas) Sept. 1.

Freshman Emma Cole scored just 12 minutes into the contest in her first collegiate game to get things going. Oklahoma Christian got a pair of goals from All-America forwards Kristin Brown and Stephanie Duncan to complete the win.

"We played very well tonight with excellent pace throughout the game. Taryn Caylor-Kingery played excellent for us tonight. Everybody got to play and everybody played well, it was a great night for our team, I'm very pleased." OC head soccer coach Sean O'Connor said.

Brown was OC's leading scorer a year ago with 17 goals. The two against Northwood run her career total to 46. Duncan scored 12 goals last year as freshman. Junior goalkeeper Lisa Jorgensen picked up the shutout, the 11th of her career. OC now leads the all-time series with Northwood 5-4-1.

OC opens its home schedule Tuesday, Sept. 4 against Kansas Wesleyan University at 4:00.
