Defying the odds the Oklahoma Christian University Lady Eagles defeated second-seeded Oklahoma City University 2-0 in Alva Nov. 8 to advance to the finals of the NAIA Region VI soccer tournament.
Scoring in each half, freshman forward Kristin Brown accounted for both of the Lady Eagles' goals. OC's first goal, with 4:10 left in the first half, was generated by a free kick by sophomore Rachel Wrinkle. Kicking the ball to the goal, it was misplayed by the OCU goalkeeper and Brown kicked the loose ball in for the score.
The second score came in the 64th minute, also off a free kick by Wrinkle. Shooting from the center of the field, the ball angled left. Brown, making a run from the left side, kicked the ball into the far right corner of the net.
OCU out shot the Lady Eagles by a 15 to 9 margin including six shots on goal. OC goalkeeper Chelsee Truesdell handled each one to garner six saves.
The Lady Eagles will meet top-seeded Northwestern Oklahoma State University in the finals in Alva at 5 p.m. Nov. 9.
The Lady Eagles (12-10) will be playing the Lady Rangers (16-2-2) for the second time in a week. OC defeated NWOK 2-1 in double overtime in the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference playoff.
