Lady Eagles shut down SWOSU

The Oklahoma Christian University Lady Eagles raced to their seventh consecutive victory with a 3-1 decision over Southwestern Oklahoma State University in an intersectional game here Sept. 21.

The 16th-ranked Lady Eagles scored in the opening half and added two second-half goals to extend the historic win streak.

Coach Sean O'Connor's charges got on the scoreboard in the 24th minute of play on freshman speedster Stephanie Duncan's fifth goal of the season. Duncan took a crossing pass from junior Taryn Caylor and bent her shot in from the near post.

The visiting Bulldogs evened the match in the 55th minute on a scoring shot by Carrie Dumbauld, but OC responded by regaining the lead five minutes later.

Caylor gave the Lady Eagles the go-ahead goal. Duncan sent a through pass to Caylor on the right side of the box. Caylor collected the ball and sent a shot at the Southwestern goalkeeper. The Bulldogs' keeper mishandled the shot and the ball rolled to the left side of the goal for a score.

With less than seven minutes left, former Edmond Memorial all-stater Jessica Ortman scored the first goal of her collegiate career. The freshman took a pass deep on the left side from junior Kristin Brown and launched a 25-yard shot. Bulldog goalie Kellie Bass was unable to hold the ball and it rolled in for the score.

Oklahoma Christian will play at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in men's and women's games in Chickasha Sept. 23. The game times have been changed to 2 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men).
