EDMOND, Okla. (August 28, 2008) – The Oklahoma Christian University women's soccer team dropped its season opener 2-0 Thursday night to NCAA Division II 10th-ranked Central Oklahoma.
A Division II record-setting crowd of 2,139 took in the action at Wantland Stadium as the Lady Eagles fell to 0-1 under first-year head coach Randall Robison.
A pair of Stephanie Lovely goals gave UCO a 2-0 halftime cushion. The Oklahoma State transfer's first score came at the 32:25 mark when she pushed past the Lady Eagle defense for an empty-net score.
Lovely's second goal came off a long pass from Tiffanie Meek at the 22:37 point.
OC shut UCO down in the second half behind two Lisa Jorgensen saves, but the offense failed to capitalize.
At the eight-minute mark, speedy forward Stephanie Duncan had a breakaway goal-scoring chance, but Lady Bronchos' keeper Josie Baker forced the offering wide left to keep OC off the board.
The loss dropped the Lady Eagles to 0-5 all time against UCO.
OC now heads to Shreveport, La., for a pair of games in the Louisiana State-Shreveport Tournament. The Lady Eagles face Texas-Tyler at 1 p.m. on Saturday before challenging the host school Monday at 1 p.m.
