OC knocks off OCU, advances to semifinals

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Oct. 27, 2007) - - Oklahoma Christian knocked off No. 25 Oklahoma City 2-1 Saturday to advance to the Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Soccer semifinals.

The Lady Eagles will travel to No. 1 seeded John Brown (Ark.) for the semifinal match on Monday in Siloam Springs, Ark.

OC scored first on Saturday when sophomore Stephanie Duncan completed a break away with her seventh goal of the season.

With eight minutes remaining in the half, the Stars tied the scored at 1-1, where it remained until the half.

The two teams played scoreless into the second half until senior Kristin Brown broke the draw with a penalty kick goal at the 27:38 mark. Duncan was fouled in the box setting up the opportunity. The score was Brown's eighth of the season.

The Lady Eagle defense stiffened from there on. At the 8:24 mark, OCU's best scoring opportunity was stifled by OC goalkeeper Lisa Jorgensen's save off a header-attempt to keep the Lady Eagles on top.

The 2-1 win avenged a Sept. 27 3-0 OCU shutout win over OC. The Lady Eagles improved to 6-9-2 on the year with the Stars falling to 14-4.

The contest with John Brown is the second on the year after a 4-0 JBU on Oct. 6 in Siloam Springs.
