CLAREMORE, Okla. (Oct. 31, 2007) – Despite scoring five times and collecting 26 shots, Oklahoma Christian fell 6-5 Wednesday at Rogers State (Okla.) in the final of the Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament.
The loss drops the Lady Eagles' record to 7-10-2 as they await a possible at-large bid to the NAIA Region VI Tournament.
Kristin Brown netted a pair of goals in the contest to tie OC's all-time goal-scoring mark of 54. The Yukon, Okla., native tallied 10 scores on the season to gain a spot atop OC's all-time list with Piper Coalson (1999-2001).
OC led 5-3 at one point Wednesday before a triple-dose of RSU goals down the stretch made the difference.
RSU's Robin Sutherland gave the Hillcats an early lead at 1-0. The lead grew to 2-0 when JoAnna Petty scored just two minutes later.
The Lady Eagles answered however. Senior Taryn Caylor-Kingery's score sliced the lead in half to 2-1 with 16:18 to play in the first half, then another Sutherland score put the Hillcats ahead 3-1.
OC kept clawing though. Brown's penalty kick goal with 33 seconds remaining in the half brought the deficit to 3-2 intermission.
The Lady Eagles exploded out of the break with three straight goals to take the two-goal edge. Caylor-Kingery scored before Brown's record-tying goal gave OC a 4-3 lead. Stephanie Duncan's goal to gave OC a 5-3 lead with 24:26 left in the game.
With less than 20 minutes left in the match, RSU's Tiffany Roberts score back-to-back breakaway goals to knot the score at 5-5.
When Sutherland, the conference's leading scorer, snuck her third goal just inside the left post, the scoring barrage finally came to an end.
OC outshot RSU 26-to-9 in the game with 12 Lady Eagle shots coming on goal.
