OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 26, 2009) – Jason Taylor scored 30 points to lead Oklahoma Christian University to a 72-58 win at Mid-America Christian (Okla.) Thursday night.
The victory, OC's fifth in a row, moved the Eagles to 14-7 in the Sooner Athletic Conference and 21-8 overall entering Saturday's season finale. The Eagles will host rival Oklahoma City at 8 p.m. in the "Backyard Brawl."
On Thursday, Jason Taylor scored 15 quick points to help Oklahoma Christian take a 20-11 lead on the Evangels midway through the first half.
MACU rallied with seven straight points, including a pair of baskets by Cameron Langster, to pull within 20-18, then tied it at 23 on Derek Winston's three-pointer with 4:18 left in the first half.
After two more ties, including a 29-29 halftime deadlock, OC scored six straight points to open the second half for a 35-29 lead. But MACU hit four consecutive three-pointers to go up 43-42 with 14:23 left.
The Eagles took control from there. OC used a pair of 7-0 runs to regain the lead and build it to 58-48 on Chad Endres' transition layup with 8:24 remaining.
MACU hung tough, but David Jackson's left-corner trey with 3:17 left gave OC a 66-56 advantage and the Eagles led by double digits the rest of the way.
Jackson was instrumental in OC's closing surge, scoring eight of his 18 points down the stretch. His double-figure effort complemented Taylor, who totaled 30 or more points for the fifth time this year.
Winston led MACU (2-19, 3-24) with 11 points.
