OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Nov. 12, 2007) - - Oklahoma Christian got a 23-1 second-half run Monday en route to a 71-45 win. The win ran OC's record to 2-2 on the year.
Jason Taylor, who set a career-best in points on Saturday with 24, bettered that total by five on Monday with a new career-high 29 points. The sophomore was 11-of-20 from the field including a 7-of-7 mark from the foul line. Taylor fell one rebound short of a double-double with nine caroms.
OC never trailed in the game and led by as many as 29. The first half saw the Eagles build the lead to 11 by the 10-minute mark.
OC stretched the advantage to 17 at 31-14 with 4:39 on the clock when Taylor completed a conventional three-point play.
The lead was 37-20 at the break behind 13 points from Taylor and nine from Lionel Saban.
The Saints opened the second stanza on a 7-0 run. Caleb Rakestraw's three-pointer at the 16:30 mark cut the Eagles' lead to 39-30.
Hillsdale brought the lead to seven at 44-37 when Jimmy Gibbs' steal and slam with 13:15 on the clock.
The basket would be the Saints' last over the next 13-plus minutes.
OC began the charge with seven straight points from Taylor. Freshman Chad Endres poured in another six points in what became a 23-1 Eagle run.
The Eagles pumped the lead to 66-38 at the 5:17 mark when Kyle Tefft snatched a HBC pass then found a cutting Taylor for a put-away dunk. Taylor was fouled on the play and sunk the charity toss.
The win moved OC to 4-0 all-time against Hillsdale Baptist. The Eagles shot 48-percent (27-56) in the win to go with a 12-of-14 night at the free-throw line.
Endres finished with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting. Tefft and Jeff Crocker each scored seven.
The Eagles host the OC Sleep Inn Classic this weekend with games on Nov. 16 and 17. OC takes on Texas College on Friday and Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday. Both games will tip at 8 p.m.
