Finishing strong, Oklahoma Christian University nailed down a hard-fought 89-80 victory over Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City Nov. 29.
Clutch outside shooting by senior Brady Page and junior Charles Baldwin and a three-point play by senior Dillon Ripley in the final minutes provided the scoring margin to improve the Eagles' record to 8-0.
Setting the pace for the Eagles, Page led Eagle scorers with 23 points, Baldwin scored 22 and Keith Harris scored 17 with 10 rebounds.
Matching each other basket for basket in the first half, OC led Mid-America by one, 31-30 with 2:41 left. A pair of baskets by Page, a shot in the lane by Harris and a free throw by Ripley extended the Eagles lead to 38-30 at the break.
In the early minutes of the final session, Baldwin reeled off 10 consecutive points to generate a 52-40 lead for the Eagles at 15:29. In the run, Page recorded his 500th career assist on a Baldwin field goal.
Mid-America fought back to pull even 58-58 with 11:05 remaining on scoring by Donald Thorne and Tracey Wilkins.
Harris, Baldwin and Page shot OC back to a 71-66 lead with six minutes to play but success at the foul line enabled Mid-America to stay close.
With time winding down, Page's three-pointer with 4:54 to play triggered the Eagles' closing surge.
For the Eagles, John Nottley finished in double figures with 12 points and senior Kendrick Jackson scored six points and led both teams with a game-high 15 rebounds.
