Oklahoma Christian University blanked St. Gregory's University as the undefeated Lady Eagles won 3-0 and the men's team followed suit with a 2-0 shutout in Shawnee on Oct. 10.
The Lady Eagles extended their record unbeaten string to 12 as they solidified their hold on first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference race with an 11-0-1 season record and 7-0-1 league record.
"The team hasn't been bothered by the win streak," Coach Sean O'Connor said. "We're just trying to get better every week. The girls are focused on improving and it's paying off."
OC's high-scoring threesome of Kristin Brown, Taryn Caylor and Stephanie Duncan each accounted for a goal against the Lady Cavaliers.Â
The Lady Eagles jumped to a quick lead when Caylor headed Cassie Tyler's free kick into the goal three minutes into the game. It was Caylor's eighth goal of the season.
Brown, OC's leading scorer, added her 15th goal of the season in the 47th minute, with Caylor earning the assist. Forward Stephanie Duncan accounted for OC's final score in the 76th minute. The speedy freshman took a pass from Tyler and netted the ball for her eighth goal of the season.
The Eagles, now 8-2-1 and 4-2-1 in league play, earned their fifth shutout of the season behind sophomore goalkeeper Bryan Cochrum's six saves.
All-SAC forward Brady Nikkel scored in each half as the Eagles swept the season series with the Cavaliers. Nikkel scored his first goal in the 26th minute, with the assist credited to freshman midfielder Cristian Fernandes. Nikkel's second goal of the game and his 10th of the season came in the 79th minute, with freshman Nick Schmitt supplying the assist.
