OC soccer teams fall to USAO

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Sept. 29, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian men's and women's soccer teams fell to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma 0-1 and 1-3, respectively on Tuesday night. Both losses are only the second for each of the teams.

The women's game started off to a quick tempo with the Lady Drovers netting the first goal. Not long into the half, USAO's Erin Coggan put the ball into the net off of Calli Cooper's assist to put USAO ahead 1-0.

Minutes after Coggan's goal, the Lady Eagles' Stephanie Duncan responded with a score to tie the game 1-1. Later in the half, the Lady Drovers replied with a second goal by Taylor Fain with Samantha Dehart on the assist to put USAO in the lead 2-1.

The second half was well matched with frequent shots from both teams. The Lady Eagles' defense held strong until an unfortunate hand in the box that led to a Lady Drovers' penalty kick.  The penalty kick was successful from Calli Cooper.

The penalty kick put USAO ahead 3-1 with little time left in the half. The Lady Eagles were incapable of scoring during the remainder of the game and gave up only their second loss of the season. The Oklahoma Christian women are now 6-2-1 on the season.

The Oklahoma Christian men started their game at a swift pace with motivation to score. Unable to score on several attempts, USAO put the ball into the net via David Otieno from a Nikola Cakarevic assist to put the Drovers up 1-0. Otieno's goal was the only of the half.

During the second half, both teams fought for the goal with the inability to score. The Eagles' defense held firm shutting out the Drovers for the second half. Though both teams made several shots, none found the net leaving the Drovers with a 1-0 victory over the Eagles.

The loss leaves the Oklahoma Christian men with a 4-2-1 record for the season.

The Oklahoma Christian soccer teams return to the OC soccer field to host Wayland Baptist University in a women's and men's double header on Saturday, Oct. 3. The women's game is 1:00 p.m. followed by the men at 3:00 p.m.
