OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Sept. 12, 2009) – The Lady Eagles overcame NCAA division II Dallas Baptist on Saturday in a 1-0 shutout to further their now 5-0 undefeated season. The Men's team followed suit by winning their third game of the season in a 9-0 shutout effort against Hillsdale Baptist (Okla.).
The Oklahoma Christian women's team fought through a scoreless first half with a strong defense that kept the persistent Dallas Baptist women's team out of the goal.
Without any scores in the first half of the game, the Oklahoma Christian women returned ready to play for the second half and scored a goal right off the bat to make the score 1-0. Stephanie Duncan scored the goal off a well-placed assist by Heather Spencer, making it Duncan's fourth goal for the season.
The remainder of the half proved to be high-pressure with multiple shots on goal by both teams. Duncan's goal ended up being the winning goal as no more shots were made and the Lady Eagles advanced to 5-0 for the season, remaining undefeated.
In the men's game, Oklahoma Christian put away two goals in the first half from shots by Trey Boykin and Peter Gordon making the score 2-0. Brandon Pascoe made the assist for Boykin's goal. The Eagle's defense had a firm presence allowing one shot on goal for the entire game.
The Eagles started the second half of the game at a vicious pace scoring five goals in the first ten minutes of the half. Neil Hilton netted three of the five goals with the other two being scored by Tyler Brady. Cristian Fernandes and Tony Hernandez assisted Brady's first goal, with Fernandes assisting Brady once again for his second goal of the game.
Later in the half, the Eagle's Peter Gordon scored another goal off an assist by Neil Hilton leaving the score at 8-0. Soon after Gordon's goal, Trey Boykin shot a second ball past the Hillsdale Baptist keeper off an assist from Matt Lambert. The Eagles finished the game strong with a final score of 9-0 against the Saints.
Both the women's and men's teams will be on the road this coming week heading to Kansas to play MidAmerica Nazarene University (Kan.) and Baker University (Kan.) on September 18th and 19th. The women will play MidAmerica at 12 pm on Friday with the men following at 2:30 pm. On Saturday, the women will play Baker at 5 pm followed by the men at 7:30 pm.
