Lady Eagles drop 2-1 heartbreaker to USAO on OT goal

Taylor Cofer scored for Oklahoma Christian in a 2-1 overtime loss at USAO.

CHICKASHA, Okla. (Oct. 7, 2011) – USAO's Calli Cooper scored 6:21 into overtime on Friday, lifting the Drovers past Oklahoma Christian 2-1 at Drover Pitch.

Oklahoma Christian (3-7-1, 0-3-1 Sooner Athletic Conference) took an early lead on an unassisted goal by Taylor Cofer less than nine minutes into the match. The Lady Eagles milked that lead until the 68th minute, when Jordyn Yates equalized for USAO (8-1, 3-1).

Cooper's winning goal came off an assist from Andrea Geiger on a play that was close to resulting in an offside call against the Drovers, OC head coach Randall Robison said. But he said that for the second straight game, the Lady Eagles played with intensity against one of the SAC's top teams, even though USAO outshot them 21-3.

"We played well today," Robison said. "It was a very physical game and our girls battled all game. USAO is a very good team. I'm proud of our players."

Kaitlyn Whitten made six saves in goal for OC, while USAO goalkeeper Addie Tipton made two saves.

After facing arguably the SAC's four best teams to open conference play, the schedule will start to lighten a bit for OC. The Lady Eagles will visit Rogers State on Tuesday, then play five of their final six games at home.
