Amanda Schatzel had the assist on OC's only goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to John Brown.
OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 15, 2011) – Cam Martin scored about two minutes into overtime Saturday to give John Brown a 2-1 win over Oklahoma Christian in women's soccer.
The loss capped a frustrating night offensively for OC (4-8-1, 1-4-1 Sooner Athletic Conference), as the Lady Eagles seized an early lead but managed only seven shots, just one of those after halftime.
An error by John Brown goalkeeper Faith Thurman gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the game. OC's Amanda Schatzel crossed a ball into Rachel Bates, who got a touch on the ball as Thurman came out to challenge her instead of holding her line. The ball trickled by Thurman and into the goal.
John Brown's Adrienne Kennedy took advantage of a defensive back-line mistake by OC to tie the game in the 17th minute. OC had few if any offensive chances after that, while Whitten made two strong saves that kept the Golden Eagles at bay. Whitten, coming off a 13-save outing in a win at Rogers State, finished with seven saves.
Martin's goal came after Oklahoma Christian's defenders failed to clear the ball from the penalty area, leaving her with an easy shot past Whitten.
John Brown outshot OC 17-7 and Thurman had four saves for the Golden Eagles (5-6-1, 3-3).
OC will host Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday.
