OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Dec. 11, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian men's basketball team utilized a second half surge to overpower Southwestern Christian University (Okla.) 84-63 on Saturday night in the Nest.
OC trailed the first few minutes of the game as Southwestern Christian grabbed an early 5-0 lead before the Eagles took the lead off a three-pointer from Devan White with 13:58 showing on the clock.
The Eagles gained their largest lead of the period at four points with 11:25 till the half. In quick retaliation, however, the SWCU men put up an 8-0 run to gain a four-point advantage of their own.
Unable to retake the lead, the Eagles tied things up two more times, out of a total of four ties for the half, and trailed SWCU by only a point at 29-28 at the close of the period.
At the start of the second half, the Eagles were strictly business as they put up a 15-2 run against the SWCU men in less than five minutes. Minutes later, the Eagles increased their margin to 16 when Jeff Crocker drained a trey only to be followed by Will Reinke with a basket of his own with 10:50 showing on the game clock.
As the Eagles held the SWCU men at bay, the OC men worked their way to a 19-point advantage with 6:08 left to play and gained their largest lead of the game with less than a minute to play at 84-61.
A score by SWCU in the last seconds of the game cut the Eagle margin to 21 before time expired with OC taking the 84-63 victory.
Andre Vaughn paced the Eagles for the night with 20 points, three rebounds, and three steals while Reinke put up 16 points at post and grabbed seven boards in addition to three assists and three blocks.
Perimeter duo Crocker and White scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, with Crocker grabbing six rebounds and White grabbing five. The pair also made four assists apiece.
Chad Endres also made an impact with nine points and six rebounds to add to the mix.
The win puts the Eagles at 7-3 for the season as they head into the break with their next matchup to be hosted in the Nest on Dec. 28, against Dallas Christian University at 6 p.m.
