OC ends nonconference play with 94-67 romp over Dallas Christian

Brandon Troutman scored a career-high 15 points and added a season-high six assists in OC's 94-67 win Wednesday over Dallas Christian.

OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 28, 2011) – Will Reinke and Willie Harper each scored 16 points and four other Oklahoma Christian players reached double figures as the Eagles closed the nonconference portion of their schedule with a 94-67 win over visiting Dallas Christian (Texas) on Wednesday afternoon.

OC (8-3) looked sharp in its first game in 18 days, shooting a season-high 59.7 percent (40 of 67) from the field against Dallas Christian (4-14), which used only five players in dropping its sixth straight game.

Dallas Christian's tallest player was 6-foot-6 and the taller Eagles took advantage. The 6-foot-10 Reinke went 8-of-9 from the field and added five rebounds, four blocked shots and four assists. Eric Randall, at 6-foot-9, was 5-of-6 from the field and scored 11 points, while 6-foot-8 Derek Johnson scored 11 points.

The Eagles' guards played well, too. Besides Harper's 16 points off the bench, Brandon Troutman went 5-of-9 from 3-point range and scored a career-high 15 points to go with a season-high six assists and Kendre Talley had 10 points, seven assists and five steals.

OC recorded 31 assists on 40 baskets, a number that astounded and pleased coach Dan Hays.

"I thought that was the most important statistic," Hays said. "That's an unbelievable number. I was shocked when I saw that. That's just really being unselfish."

The Eagles practiced only twice this week after Hays gave the players time off for Christmas.

"We didn't practice to condition," Hays said. "We practiced for timing and we looked pretty sharp. We looked pretty good today for two days of practice."

The Crusaders had played one of OC's Sooner Athletic Conference rival, Rogers State, within eight points on Dec. 15, but never offered the Eagles much of a challenge. OC jumped to a 14-2 lead during the first four minutes.

OC led 44-23 at halftime after shooting 63.3 percent (19 of 30) and the Crusaders came no closer than 16 points in the second half. The Eagles' lead swelled to as many as 31 points.

Isaac Gonzalez led Dallas Christian with 28 points and 13 rebounds, while Donte Choice scored 14 points for the Crusaders.

OC's final 18 regular-season games will be against SAC foes, starting Saturday when the Eagles host Oklahoma City University.
