Eagles notch needed win, Lady Eagles fall

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Oct. 30, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian men's soccer team pulled out a 4-3 victory of Saint Gregory's University (Okla.) on Saturday night while the women were allotted a 1-0 shutout defeat.

In the women's game, the Lady Eagles created numerous opportunities to score but were unable to find the net as they put up 12 shots during the game and received 17 from a well-matched Lady Cavaliers squad.

After a scoreless first period, a back and forth second period allowed for a Saint Gregory's goal midway through the half. The 1-0 lead was enough to take down the Lady Eagles as their retaliation efforts came up short.

Natalie Goens recorded six saves for the Lady Eagles as she held the Lady Cavaliers to a single score.

The loss brings the OC women to 2-12-2 for the season and leaves them with a 1-8-1 record in the conference.

In the men's game, the Eagles faced a quick and capable Cavaliers squad but took off on a first half 2-0 lead with back to back goals by Tom Tippeconnic and Tommy Guernsey. Tippeconnic followed through on a pass from Guernsey who received the ball from Logan Frampton. Guernsey followed a similar pattern taking the ball from Neil Hilton who received a pass from Yafet Kubrom to put the ball into the back of the net to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage.

With a 2-0 advantage heading into the second period, Tyler Brady increased the lead to 3-0 with an early goal fired off an assist from Will Binder.

Moments later, however, the Cavaliers made their objective clear with back to back goals to trail the OC men by a single score with nearly half of the period still to play.

With less than ten minutes remaining, Binder blasted in a fourth goal for the Eagles to again increase the lead with the score now at 4-2. In spite of such, the Cavaliers refused to lie down and a goal from SGU's Antony Moore again put them in reach as the trailed by a point.

The Eagle squad held firm to the horn, however, to take home the 4-3 conference victory as they vie for a spot in the conference tournament.

The OC men are now at 4-12 overall and carry a 4-5 Sooner Athletic Conference record.

The OC soccer teams will stay at home for their final regular season double header as they host John Brown University (Ark.) on Tuesday. The women's game is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m.
