Soccer teams lose first conference game

LUBBOCK, Texas (Sept. 29, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's and men's soccer teams both fell to Lubbock Christian University on Wednesday with the women losing 3-0 and the men coming away with a 3-1 defeat.

The Lady Eagles struggled to find momentum offensively as the Lady Chaparrals controlled a lot of the game. The OC women managed to get 10 shots off against Lubbock Christian with half of them on goal, however, were unable to get past the keeper.

OC underwent an array of 17 shots from the Lady Chaps yet only seven shots were on target. The LCU women scored early in the first half to take a 1-0 lead with the Lady Eagles remaining in the game until nearly half way through the second period when LCU scored back-to-back goals in less than a minute to take a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles were unable to respond and recorded their fifth loss of the season to bring them to a 1-5-1 record overall and start out conference play at a 0-1 deficit.

The Eagles suffered a similar fate against the LCU men despite numerous opportunities to score. The Eagles held their own offensively against the Chaps as they fired a volley of 17 shots against the LCU goal with six on the mark. Coming in at four shots less, the Chaps were able to connect on three shots as they recorded the 3-1 win.

The Chaps took the first lead of the game early in the first period when Dustin Jones finished off a free kick to put LCU at a 1-0 advantage. Unable to retaliate during the period, the OC men tied things up early on in the second period when Cion Samuel connected on a far out shot to net the Eagles' first goal.

Moments later, the Chaps responded with a second goal to retake the lead with half of the period left to play. With just minutes left on the clock, the LCU men sealed the win with a third goal to give the Chaps a 3-1 victory.

Now a game into conference play, the Eagles still remain winless at 0-8 and 0-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

The OC soccer teams will stay on the road for their next appearance as they play the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Friday. The women's game will start at 1 p.m. with the men to follow at 3 p.m.
