CHICKASHA, Okla. (Oct. 1, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's and men's soccer teams again faced defeat on Friday afternoon against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma with the women falling 4-2 and the men 4-1.
The Lady Eagles met a powerful offense from the Lady Drovers Friday afternoon as the OC women faced 21 shots with 11 in the first period. The Lady Eagles managed to get three shots off during the first period but were unable to find the goal.
USAO's Calli Cooper found the Lady Eagle net twice during the first half to give the Lady Drovers a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. Not far into the second period the Lady Drovers jumped to a 3-0 lead as the OC women struggled to get shots off.
Moments later the Lady Eagles got their chance at the goal when Katie Boydstun utilized an assist from Somer Helms to score the first goal for OC. Despite such, the Lady Drovers responded minutes later with a forth goal to lead the Lady Eagles 4-1.
With less than two minutes left to play, OC's Somer Helms connected on a shot, with an assist from Sarena Underwood, to put another goal on the board for the Lady Eagles before time expired.
The 4-2 loss drops the Lady Eagles to 1-6-1 for the season and 0-2 for conference play.
The Eagles faced a strong offensive squad as well in the No. 8 ranked USAO Drovers. The Drovers put up an array of 16 shots in each period for a total of 32 for the game. Four shots made it into the Eagle goal with the first goal late in the first period.
The OC men held the Drovers to just one goal heading into halftime. Not long into the second half, however, the USAO men put up two more goals a minute apart to take a 3-0 lead. The Eagles retaliated minutes later with a goal from Don Towner to leave OC trailing 3-1.
In spite of such, the Drovers fired another one into the Eagle net just two minute later. The Eagles held USAO from scoring again but unable to score, added another loss to their season.
The defeat allows the Eagles to fall to 0-9 overall and 0-2 for conference play.
The OC soccer teams return home for the next games as they host Wayland Baptist University (Texas) next Thursday with the women scheduled to play at 6 p.m. and the men to follow at 8 p.m.
