Janice Stephenson, a former Lubbock Christian (Texas) standout and longtime teacher and coach in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, began serving as an assistant coach for the OC volleyball program in February 2020.
Originally from Fillmore, Calif., Stephenson is considered one of the finest volleyball players in Lubbock Christian history, named as NAIA District 8's most valuable player in both 1980 and 1981. To this day, she holds the program record for career solo blocks with 281 and ranks fourth in kills with 1,604. She was inducted into the LCU Athletic Hall of Honor in 1993.
She went on to a 26-year career in secondary education, working in the Mesquite, Fort Worth and Mansfield school districts and serving as a coach in Mesquite and Mansfield. She also worked in ticket sales for the Texas Rangers baseball team for six years.
In addition to her collegiate athletic honors, Stephenson was inducted into the Fillmore High School Hall of Fame in 2010. She and her husband, Lewis – a former Lubbock Christian baseball player – now live in Edmond. They have three grown sons.
