The son of a former Oklahoma Christian head softball coach, Hunter Hays became an assistant coach for the OC program before the 2021-22 academic year.
Hays is the son of former OC softball head coach Shanon Hays, who left OC in June 2021 to take the coaching job at NCAA Division I Grand Canyon, and the grandson of legendary former Texas Tech baseball coach Larry Hays, who's now the softball coach at Colorado Christian.
Hunter Hays played baseball for three seasons at NCAA Division II Colorado Christian after beginning his collegiate career at Abilene Christian, where he started in 16 games as a freshman in 2016. In 2020 at Colorado Christian, he hit .326 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 13 games. As a junior, he hit .260 with 27 RBIs, and as a sophomore, he hit .331 with 31 RBIs.
During the 2020-21 academic year, he served as a graduate assistant coach for OC's baseball program. Hunter Hays attended high school in Lubbock, Texas, at Lubbock Christian High School.
