In 1995 coach Tom Heath began building the Oklahoma Christian softball program piece by piece, brick by brick, taking no shortcuts. A field had to be built, and through the years, as today’s Lady Eagle Field took shape, it was Heath’s heart and hands making it happen.
But our Coach Heath had bigger dreams. He envisioned a day when OC would have one of the finest stadiums in all of college softball. Resources were tight, but he knew the caliber of his players—and the passion of his families and fans—deserved an equally high caliber facility. Moreover, he knew if he kept pushing and kept growing, his dream would catch on.
And it has.
In recent months, through the amazing generosity of Ricky and Kelly Lawson and other anonymous donors, Heath’s vision is about to become reality. Over $3.9 million has been given for the construction of OC’s new softball stadium, Tom Heath Field at Lawson Plaza, which will be among the finest collegiate facilities in the nation at any level. The new stadium will feature:
- locker rooms
- coaches’ offices
- training rooms
- meeting rooms
- players’ lounge
- permanent restrooms
- press box
- permanent seating
- indoor training facility
- artificial turf playing surface
- home and visiting bullpens/cages
- 34-vehicle parking lot
- and more!
We broke ground on the new stadium in July 2012. But we need you to help finish the job!
More than 85% of the funds needed for the facility are being put to work. However, we need our alumni, friends, and fans to help us raise another $700,000 to provide for long-term endowed maintenance, which will keep our new jewel in tip-top shape for the next generation of OC student-athletes and their fans.
We don’t build facilities that we can’t take care of at OC, so this final piece is an integral part of our new field. Together, we can match the challenge posed by the Lawsons and other generous donors and show the world that when Eagles embark on a major project, we do it first class!
