EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma Christian women's soccer struck first and outshot Lubbock Christian, but the Eagles were unable to hold off the Lady Chaps in a 2-1 loss Saturday at Eagle Soccer Field.
Oklahoma Christian wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Just 2:08 into the match, Jaycie Daggs found the back of the net to give the Eagles an early 1-0 advantage.
OC continued to create opportunities in the opening half, with Caid Jefferson recording a pair of shots and Sophia Acuna adding another attempt. The Eagles also earned four first-half corner kicks. Lubbock Christian found the equalizer in the 26th minute, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
The Lady Chaps took the lead in the 56th minute, making it 2-1. Oklahoma Christian responded by applying pressure throughout the remainder of the match.
Jefferson put a pair of shots on goal in the 64th and 73rd minutes, but both were turned away. Jordan Tanges gave the Eagles two more chances late, putting shots on goal in the 81st and 82nd minutes, but OC was unable to find the equalizer.
Oklahoma Christian finished with a 9-5 advantage in shots and put five attempts on goal compared to three for Lubbock Christian. Jefferson led the Eagles with four shots, including two on goal, while Tanges added two shots on goal.
Breanna Wooten played all 90 minutes in goal for Oklahoma Christian and recorded one save. The loss moves the Eagles to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Eagles will look to find their first conference win next Wednesday, September 16th when they host the Hilltoppers of St. Edward's at 5 p.m.
