Eagles Open Home Slate With Four-Set Win Over Midwestern State

EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma Christian volleyball picked up a four-set victory over Midwestern State on Thursday night inside the Eagles' Nest, defeating the Mustangs 25-21, 25-27, 25-15 and 25-17. The win improved the Eagles to 5-4 on the season.

Oklahoma Christian opened the match with a 25-21 victory in the first set before Midwestern State answered in a tightly contested second set. The two teams battled through 15 ties and seven lead changes before the Mustangs escaped with a 27-25 win to even the match at one set apiece.

The Eagles responded in dominant fashion after the break. OC hit .346 in the third set with 15 kills on 26 attacks, rolling to a 25-15 victory. Oklahoma Christian carried that momentum into the fourth, recording 16 kills and hitting .333 on its way to a 25-17 win to close out the match.

Chloe Jones led a balanced Oklahoma Christian attack with 13 kills while committing just one error on 26 attempts for a .462 hitting percentage. Jones also added seven digs and four total blocks. Molly Brunell followed with 11 kills, while Leah Duncan turned in an efficient performance with nine kills and no errors on 15 attacks, hitting a match-high .600.

Jenna McClure added nine kills, nine digs and two service aces, while Kenzy McArtor finished with five kills and five total blocks. Lauren Cary contributed five total blocks of her own.

The Eagles' setters helped OC finish the night with 55 kills and a .294 team hitting percentage. Summer Van Meerveld handed out 27 assists and added two service aces, while Emma Eyster recorded 17 assists, five digs and three aces. Macey Nehring led the Eagles with 11 digs and added three service aces.

Oklahoma Christian finished with 12 service aces and held Midwestern State to a .180 hitting percentage. After dropping the second set, the Eagles held the Mustangs to hitting percentages of .148 and .071 over the final two frames to secure the victory.

The Eagles will get a day break before taking on the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingville on Saturday, September 12th at 1 p.m. to close out the LSC Challenge.
