Early Lead Not Enough for Baseball in Series Finale

KINGSVILLE, Texas - For the third time in this weekend's four-game series against (RV) Texas A&M-Kingsville, Oklahoma Christian led after three innings of play, this time racing out to a 4-0 lead, before the Javelina bats got hot, capturing the 13-6 series-finale victory.

True freshman Arlan Koester recorded his first collegiate start on the mound, earning the no-decision with three strikeouts while allowing just three runs on six hits in his 3.1 innings of work.

Tanner Forbus (3-for-5) recorded his first three-hit game as an Eagle, including his first such home run, finishing with three RBI and two runs scored. Trey Migl claimed his eighth straight with a hit after going 1-for-4 while working one walk and scoring a run.

With Koester allowing just one base runner in each of the first two innings, Oklahoma Christian claimed its first hit of the game in the third, but were aided by back-to-back walks to lead off the third and two TAMUK errors to score the game's first four runs.

After another quick third inning from Koester, the OC offense put runners at third and second with just one out, but had to leave them both stranded in the top of the fourth. The defensive stand fueled the Javelina offense as they cut the Eagle lead to one, 4-3, albeit leaving two on base following an inning-ending double play.

Despite getting out of the jam, the momentum had swung to the side of the home team as TAMUK continued to score six more unanswered runs for the 9-4 lead after six. A two-run home run from Forbus was all the maroon-and-gray managed the rest of the way, eventually falling, 13-6.

Oklahoma Christian (7-15, 7-15 LSC) will return to Dobson Baseball Field for a four-game stand against another ABCA top-40 team in (RV) St. Edward's Mar. 13-15.
