SILVER CITY, N.M. -
Madi Drummond delivered a game-winning two-run home run in game one of Sunday's doubleheader as No. 12 OC split with Western New Mexico, 5-3 and 11-13.
McKenna Ingrom (4-3) picked up her second win of the week with the game-one win in relief, going the final four innings without allowing a single run or hit while striking out two Mustangs.
Drummond recorded her second home run of the season to put OC ahead for good, which served as her only hit of the afternoon.
Marti Yaerger finished the afternoon 3-for-4 at the dish with three runs scored and two RBI.
No. 12 Oklahoma Christian (26-7, 18-4 LSC) will return to Tom Heath Field for a pair of doubleheaders against St. Mary's and St. Edward's Friday, Mar. 27 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, Mar. 29 at 12 p.m., respectively.
Game One: No. 12 Oklahoma Christian 5, Western New Mexico 3 (8 inn.)
Oklahoma Christian scored single runs in three straight innings to Western's one run as OC took a 3-1 lead into the fifth inning. A two-run home run in the fifth for Western New Mexico, however, doubled its runs to tie play at 3-3.
Neither team claimed a hit in the final two innings of regulation, leading to the maroon-and-gray's second extra-inning game of the season. The Eagles improved to 2-0 in such games, following a two-out, two-run home run from Drummond, before Ingram recorded her first three-up, three-down inning in her four frames of work.
Game Two: Western New Mexico 13, Oklahoma Christian 11
Oklahoma Christian got the scoring going early and often in game two, racing out to a 9-1 lead after three and a half innings thanks to a seven-run fourth frame. Both teams tallied two runs in their next at-bats as OC went into the bottom of the fifth in run-rule territory, 11-3.
After coming into the fifth with only seven hits, Western rattled off five hits to plate five runs, extending the game while cutting into OC's lead, 11-8. The swing in momentum stayed with the Mustangs, scoring an additional five unanswered as WNMU forced the day's split, 13-11.
