Early Pitching Woes Sink Baseball in Series Finale

EDMOND, Okla. - Texas A&M International scored its first four runs of the game without putting a ball in play as Oklahoma Christian fell in the Sunday's series finale, 16-6.

Trey Migl and Justin Spencer each tallied two hits at the plate for four of OC's nine hits, with the duo seeing a hit in each of the four games this weekend.

Tim Malone saw the best outing of any Eagle pitcher, earning a no-decision after throwing one and one-third inning, allowing zero runs while striking out two Dustdevil batters. Malone has thrown seven strikeouts on the season in just six innings of work.

The afternoon started with the first four TAMIU batters reaching base without making contact as the Eagles threw three pitchers in the first inning before moving into the home-half trailing 4-0. For OC, a two-out double from Spencer followed by a Cole Rager single cut the International lead in half, 4-2.

One more run in the bottom of the second looked like the Eagles were going to overcome the early pitching miscues as OC trailed 4-3 heading into the fourth inning. The Dustdevils' second four-spot of the afternoon came in the fourth, however, opening an 8-3 lead. Another five runs over the next two innings extended the deficit, 13-3.

The Eagles responded the three runs over the final two frames, only to have TAMIU do the same as the finale was finished after eight innings, 16-6. After OC's doubleheader sweep yesterday, thet maroon-and-gray's fifth series of the season finished with a two-game-to-two split.

Oklahoma Christian (6-12, 6-12 LSC) will now head to Kingsville, Texas, for a four-game series against the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas Mar. 6-Mar. 8.
