OC Athletics Making a Difference During the Holiday Season

EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian: A Kingdom University. Made for more. Play for more.

During the 2025 holiday season into 2026, Oklahoma Christian's athletics programs took that mission beyond the Sooner State, from south Texas all the way to Honduras.

EAGLES LAND IN HONDURAS

Over Christmas and New Year's, the Oklahoma Christian softball program went on a mission trip to Honduras. While on site, they built and painted a house for a Honduras family as well as helped a non-profit called Breaking Chains pack food boxes for Honduras families, with the leader of Breaking Chains being an OC alum.

The missionary group also did a "Ladies Day" where they painted some of the local women's nails, shared snacks and did a devotional with them. The team still managed to get some softball in, playing a slow pitch game with a Honduras team and donated gloves, bats and equipment.

"To be able to go back to Honduras was such an amazing experience and opportunity," head softball coach Shalee Rodriguez said. "We had more athletes and even families join us for this trip because of how great the first experience was. Seeing the Honduras families and little kids light up when they saw our bus pull up in their community is a feeling one will never forget. To be able to help their community in so many different ways is such a blessing to OC softball and it truly is life changing. We truly got to experience being the hands and feet of Jesus."

DIMICK BRINGS A BIT OF OC ATHLETICS TO EL SALVADOR

Jeff Dimick, Oklahoma Christian Data Analyst and Assistant Professor of Mathematics, as well as overseeing club sports for OC, took OC Athletics merchandise to El Salvador over the break, connecting with the people ove there while presenting the Gospel message.

MORE THAN A GAME

Over the break, Oklahoma Christian women's basketball connected with OC Hall of Fame member and legendary Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale over dinner as Coale encouraged the women's team concerning matters on the court as well as in life, praying over the team as they were set to begin the new semester.

In the first road trip of 2026, the Oklahoma Christian men's basketball team partook in a devotional led by head coach Kendre Talley in the team hotel lobby in Kingsville, Texas. Talley leads a devotional for his guys whenever they are on the road competing.

EAGLE GOLFERS MEET SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER WHILE GROWING IN THEIR FAITH

In between their fall and spring season, several Oklahoma Christian men's golfers attended the College Golf Fellowship retreat hosted by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. At the event, while growing with other collegiate golfers and learning golf tips as well as life lessons under Scheffler, foursome Garrett Thornhill, Mason Brown, Zac Beddor and Carson Lee took the top spot on the tournament side of things.

The aforementioned Brown, Thornhill and Lee also attended the Student Mobilization Conference, a once-a-year conference that gathers thousands of college students from around the country to grow deeper in their faith. Conference attendees get to do things like learn how to study the Bible, run from sin and see firsthand what a Christ-centered like looks like.
