EDMOND, Okla. - A 12-run first game helped OC snap a nine-game losing streak as Oklahoma Christian split its first day of doubleheaders against Cameron Monday afternoon, 12-4 and 7-4.
Four players claimed multiple hits in game one, led by
Jontae Hennesy with a 3-for-4 outing, coming with three RBI and two runs scored.
Justin Spencer, though not a part of the multi-hit club in opener, did finish his two-game day going 3-for-5 at the plate with two home runs a triple while also getting on base with three walks.
Game one starting pitcher
Chris Jones (4-2) tied his season high with eight strikeouts, going six of the scheduled seven innings, allowing four runs on three hits and five walks.
Sam Collins entered for the final inning, holding CU hitless and scoreless to claim the game-one win.
Oklahoma Christian (8-28, 7-27 LSC) will return to Dobson Baseball Field for the final two games of the series against Cameron Tuesday, Apr. 8 with a seven-inning game at 1 p.m. followed by a nine-inning game at approximately 4 p.m.
Game One: Oklahoma Christian 12, Cameron 4
Cameron got the first two OC batters out as it looked to be a quick first inning.
Hunter Jones worked a two-out walk, opening the door for five runs to come across the plate over the next four Eagle batters. Following a
Sloan Laird two-RBI-single, Spencer delivered his first home run of the season for runs three, four and five.
After a three-up, three-down top of the second, the maroon-and-gray added two more runs in the second for the 7-0 lead. Both teams traded runs in the third before another Oklahoma Christian run gave way to three Aggie runs in the fifth for a 9-4 OC advantage after four and a half innings.
The Eagles put to rest any fear of a potential late comeback from Cameron, however, with three more runs in the fifth and sixth while Jones and Collins combined to retire six of the Aggies' final seven batters to take the game-one, 12-4 win.Â
Game Two: Cameron 7, Oklahoma Christian 4
Oklahoma Christian worked a double play in each of the first three innings to keep a first-inning single run at that as play stood at a 1-1 deadlock into the fourth inning. An OC fielding error in the fourth, however, allowed for a free two runs from CU to take a 4-1 lead.
Eagle pitching allowed OC to fight back to within one run while Cameron was kept at four runs until the eighth inning when the Eagles tied the game for the second time. After a lead-off Spencer triple,
Sterling Albrand brought in the game-tying run with a sacrifice fly.
In the Aggies' last time at bat in regulation, an initially called second out at first was overturned by replay, loading the bases for CU with one out. A would-be third out came moments later, but with the overturned call, Cameron took advantage with back-to-back hits to score the game's final three runs.
