EDMOND, Okla. -
Grace Anderson (5-1) got the afternoon started with a 14-strikeout performance followed by six punch-outs from
Jill Dickson (5-2) as No. 20 Oklahoma Christian defeated Midwestern State in Saturday's doubleheader, 2-1 and 8-0.
14 strikeouts in game one was a career-high for Anderson and the most by an OC softball player since 2023 when counterpart Dickson dished out 15 strikeouts. In addition to the career-high from within the circle, Anderson also allowed just one hit and zero earned runs as she is now 11th in the LSC with a 1.65 ERA while have pitched the second most innings of those Top-11.
Senior
Kate Paulsen had an exceptional day at the plate, hitting for the cycle across the two games with a triple and a home run in the first game before recording a double and single in the latter contest. Paulsen also tallied three runs scored and one RBI to complete her career day.
Oklahoma Christian (10-4, 3-3 LSC) will have one day off before hosting a doubleheader-showdown against No. 8 West Texas A&M starting at 1 p.m.
GAME ONE: No. 20 Oklahoma Christian 2, Midwestern St. 1
Anderson and the Eagle defense was sporting a perfect game heading into the fourth inning, when the Mustangs put their first ball in play. The OC offense was fairing in a similar fashion against Midwestern's ace, however, managing just one run on four hits over that stretch.
Following an Anderson RBI-single in the third, MSU scored off an OC error to knot it up, 1-1. Paulsen quickly changed that with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the fourth, serving as her second of the young season.
The tying run remained at the plate for the rest of the game as the Mustangs did not see another base runner for the final three innings. Four of Anderson's 14 strikeouts came in the final three frames to clinch the one-run victory for OC.
GAME TWO: No. 20 Oklahoma Christian 8, Midwestern St. 0 (5 inn.)
Midwestern's biggest threat of the entire afternoon came in the first inning of game two. Following a lead-off strikeout, a walk, passed ball and a single put an MSU base runner on third with two outs still to work with. A run-down at home plate followed by a lineout to centerfield ended the threat, however.
The Eagle defense proved another MSU scoring opportunity futile as two Mustangs were left stranded in the top of the second. Both teams still remained scoreless until the fourth inning when OC broke it open.
A Dickson single put Oklahoma Christian on the board three batters into the bottom of the fourth before
Marti Yaerger recorded an RBI with a hit-by-pitch and
Maci George used a two-RBI single to set a 4-0 advantage.
After a hitless top of the fifth for Midwestern, OC strung together three hits following a lead-off walk to load the bases and put the winning run on first. With one swing of the bat,
Kiley Brewster issued a bases-clearing double to induce the run-rule victory, 8-0.
