Hot First-Half Shooting Lifts OC Past Midwestern, 75-62

EDMOND, Okla. - Behind a 71.4 percent (15-of-21) first-half shooting percentage, Oklahoma Christian snapped a five-game losing streak to Midwestern State Saturday afternoon, 75-62.

The highly efficient maroon-and-gray offense was accompanied with a season-high 19 team assists, marking the most assists in a conference game since the 2022-23 season. Sophie Bennett led the effort with seven dimes - the most from any Lady Eagle this season.

Taylor Jackson matched her second-most points in an Eagles uniform with a game-high 22 points while pulling down nine defensive rebounds. Elikya Baseyila filled up the stat sheet with four points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals in only 18 minutes of action.

Midwestern St. scored the first point of the game and then trailed the rest of the way following the first field-goal of the contest from Kenzie Willis. The Oklahoma Christian defense held the Mustangs to just four first-quarter field-goals as OC closed the opening frame on an 8-0 run for a 25-12 lead after 10 minutes of play.

Despite OC building the lead to 15, MSU used stingy defense to cut it down to five before the maroon-and-gray re-established a double-digit advantage at the break, 43-33. The Lady Eagle offense matched with its defense got going in the third period again, opening a 14-point, 61-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The maroon-and-gray lead fell to single digits just one more time as Oklahoma Christian nabbed its first conference win of the 2025-26 season thanks to highest scoring outing against NCAA competition this season.

The Lady Eagles (5-5, 1-3 LSC) will play one final game in 2025 when it heads to Claremore, Okla., to take on Rogers State Saturday, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m.
