DURANT, Okla. - After taking care of Southeastern Oklahoma State in a neutral site contest at the Midwestern State Invitational in the season opener, Oklahoma Christian traveled to Bloomer Sullivan Arena Tuesday night to hand the Savage Storm its second loss of the season at the hands of the Eagles, 3-1.
Chloe Jones (25 digs, 11 kills),
Sophie Mae Smith (26 assists, 10 digs) and
Summer van Meerveld (22 assists, 10 digs) each posted double-doubles to help lead the maroon-and-gray to its 10th victory of 2025. This year's OC team is the quickest to reach 10 victories in a season in program history.
Camryn McGough joined the trio with the stellar showing after delivering a season-high 11 kills while hitting .417 while logging four blocks. McGough and
Lauren Cary, who also tallied four rejections, are tied for the team lead among players with at least 35 sets played with 0.76 blocks per set.
Southeastern opened the match scoring the first two points before keeping it close through the early going, 6-6. The Eagles proceeded to close the set on a 19-9 run to take the opening frame, 25-15. The second set echoed the first, the OC winning its second stanza by the same score, 25-15.
Looking for its second sweep of the season against the Savage Storm after rattling off the first three points of the third set, SE fought back from a 13-9 deficit to force a fourth set, 25-21. That was all the Eagles allowed Southeastern to get, however, as a late run in set four put the finishing touches on the evening, 25-21, with Cary scoring two of OC's final three points for the victory.
Oklahoma Christian (10-4, 2-2 LSC) will return to Edmond before heading south for Wichita Falls, Texas, where it will battle Midwestern State Friday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. before continuing into the Lone Star State for a date with Lubbock Christian Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m.
