CANYON, Texas - 31 of Oklahoma Christian's 64 points came from two players as the Lone Star Conference's top scoring offense in No. 2 West Texas A&M proved too much for the Eagles, 83-64.
Saturday afternoon's 19-point loss is the closest OC has played the national powerhouse Buffs on the road since the 2019-20 season. The Eagles even shot 45 percent from the floor, matching WTAMU, but Oklahoma Christian left 13 points at the free-throw line, going 12-of-25 (48.0 percent).
Bryce Kennedy scored a game-high and career-high 20 points while
Keyondre Young kept up his double-digit scoring streak to start the season with 11 points.
Cameron Bell scored his first points in an Eagle uniform with three points, two rebounds and two steals in 17 minutes of action.
Oklahoma Christian held the early lead through the first three minutes, but OC saw its last lead at 8-7 at the 17:40 mark. West Texas proceeded to go on an 11-2 run thanks to three triples during that stretch that opened an 18-10 WTAMU lead.
The Buffs slowly built their lead all the way to 20 at the break, 49-29, hitting 8-of-16 (50.0 percent)Â three-points attempts compared to just 2-of-7 (28.6 percent) for OC. The Eagles spent the final 20 minutes of game time outscoring West Texas, 35-34, but damage had already been done.
Oklahoma Christian (3-4, 0-2 LSC) will now put the 83-64 loss in the rear view mirror as it prepares for its LSC home opener Thursday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. when the University of Texas at Permian Basin comes to the Payne Athletic Center.
