EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian scored its most points in a conference game since Feb. 2, 2023 Thursday night inside the Payne Athletic Center as the Eagles never trailed against Cameron in their eventual 90-82 victory.
Five players scored in double figures for OC (5-5, 2-3 LSC) as the team scored 90 points on just 52 shots. As a team, the Eagles shot 59.6 percent (31-of-52) from the floor and 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from three, marking their best three-point shooting percentage in a win since Feb. 17, 2018.
Keyondre Young scored a career-high 32 points while absolutely knocking out the bottom of the net in Oklahoma Christian's final game before Christmas, shooting 11-of-16 (68.8 percent) from the floor, 6-of-7 (85.7 percent) from beyond the perimeter and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. 32 is the most points an OC player has scored since Aubrey Johnson's 35-point performance on Jan. 23, 2020.
Miles Gibson also contributed a career high Thursday evening with 22 points on 9-of-12 (75.0 percent) shooting while knocking down three of his four attempts from the charity stripe. Gibson also added six rebounds, one block and one steal.
Marco Foster and
Javon Grant operated as the main facilitators for the high-octane Eagle offense in the 2024 finale, administering seven and eight assists, respectively, both of which are season-highs for the duo. Grant's eight assists came with 10 points and four steals.
The wire-to-wire victory started 10 seconds into Thursday night's action as
Bryce Kennedy put OC on the board first before a seven-point lead was built less than two minutes into play. Cameron kept the margin within six for the first 12 minutes before Gibson scored 13 of OC's next 15 points, including back-to-back and-1s, to turn a one-point lead into an 11-point advantage at the 4:04 mark.
Two three-pointers on consecutive trips down the floor from Young late in the first half completed a 54-point first half and opened Oklahoma Christian's largest lead of the game at 54-40 heading into the locker room.
That lead ballooned to 20 early in the second period before Cameron cut it back to 11 with 12:37 on the clock and again to five with under four minutes left in regulation. Consistent shot-making from the Eagles all night long, however, helped hold off the threatening second-half Aggies.
Oklahoma Christian will return in 2025 with its final two home games of this five-game home stand when it hosts UT Tyler and No. 15 DBU Friday, Jan. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 5 at 3 p.m.
