Eagles Battle in the Burg against No. 6 Dallas Baptist Before Patriots Pull Away Late

DALLAS, Texas - Oklahoma Christian (5-8, 2-5) carried its momentum from a three-game winning streak into the Burg at Dallas Baptist (11-1,5-1) and led by a season-high 17 points from Bryce Kennedy, took the fight to the Patriots in a battle in Dallas.
 
First Half
The Eagles took an early lead, taking an 11-6 lead on a Karlyn Kenner jumper five minutes into the first half. DBU responded and, after trading buckets with OC up to the 17-17 mark, went on a run to take a 28-20 lead with 8:09 left in the first half.
 
OC battled back from Dallas Baptist's attempt to pull away and cut the lead down to two on a Nyk Madison dunk off a lob from Quinton Johnson II with just over a minute remaining. The Patriots used a three and a layup in the final minute to take a 42-35 lead into the break.
 
Kennedy and Johnson each had 10 points at the half to lead the Eagles, and Kenner had 3 steals and four rebounds to lead the OC hustle stats.
 
Second Half
Dallas Baptist quickly took a nine-point lead out of the break, but Oklahoma Christian whittled it back down, cutting the lead to two at 49-47 on a Moun'Tae Edmundson three-pointer.
 
After the first media timeout, DBU stretched the lead back to its largest of the game at thirteen at 64-51. OC fought and held the lead within striking distance until late buckets led to an 88-71 Patriots win.
 
DBU is the top-scoring team in the Lone Star Conference, and the Eagles held them to six points, below their 94 points per game average.
 
Notes
  • Bryce Kennedy had a season and OC career high of 17 points to pace the Eagles, on an incredible 5-6 shooting, and pulled in 6 rebounds.
  • Karlyn Kenner added 15 points in another strong performance, notching a double-double with 10 rebounds and adding 2 steals.
  • Moun'Tae scored 13 points on strong shooting beyond the arc and at the charity stripe.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles will return to OKC to host their first games of the 2024 portion of the schedule, with a matchup on Thursday at 7:30 and a matinee on Saturday at 3 p.m.
