OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian (1-0) dominantly opened the 2023 season with a 3-0 win over William Jewel (0-1). The Eagles held possession of their attacking side for 57% of the match and limited WJ to 8% possession in their attacking third, compared to the Eagles' 28% in the attacking third.
Ellis Jones made an immediate impact in his debut in an OC kit, scoring the opening goal of the season with an assist from sophomore
Elliott Forestier in the 34th minute. OC's attack didn't take long to add to the lead, when a beautiful layoff pass from
Igor Caballero led to
Jacob Carter's first goal, giving OC a 2-0 lead.
Fynn Koerner opened his season with a brilliant performance between the sticks, keeping the sheet clean with two saves, one of which came on a penalty opportunity for William Jewel. The
Cardinals drew a foul at the top of the eighteen, but Koerner didn't flinch, denying the shot to the lower-right corner.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead into halftime and kept the foot on the gas in the second half. Jones scored his second goal of the match for his first brace as an Eagle in the 51st minute to provide the final score of the match.
Koerner's and the back lines shutout was the 4th shutout of his career in goal for Oklahoma Christian.
