Oklahoma City, Okla. - After falling in the opener against West Texas A&M last night the Eagles looked to bounce back in a doubleheader at Dobson Field.
Â
Game 1
Â
Matthew Shira got the nod in game one of the doubleheader and cruised through his first two innings, striking out a Buff and only allowing one hit.
Â
West Texas A&M took the lead in the third with three consecutive singles resulting in a run, and they scored on a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly to take a 3-0 lead.
Â
Jayvien Joesph connected on a pitch with two outs and crushed a home run to left field to cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the third.
Â
Chris Jones, who came in in relief in the third, sat the side down in order in the top of the fourth inning. And in the bottom half, singles from
Marcus Johnson and
Hunter Jones put runners on first and third, and a
Jaren Hill walk loaded the bases. But the Buffs struck out the next batter to get out of the inning.
Â
Jones flashed the leather throughout the game robbing a hit by snagging a line drive up the middle and teamed up with DiFiore for a nice play on a 3-1 putout.
Â
A dropped foul ball led to a run for West Texas A&M in the 5th inning, but Jones held WT to just the one run on one hit.
Â
OC made some noise in the bottom of the 7th in a rally attempt. Joseph doubled scoring
Hank Heiselbetz, and Johsonson brought Joesph home on a double off the top of the left field wall, cutting the lead to 4-3. Both Johnson and Empkey in the at-bat before looked like they tied the game with potential home run balls that came up just short of the fence.
Â
The rally came up just short in the bottom of the seventh and WT held on to win, 4-3.
Â
Game 2
Â
Hank Heiselbetz continued his strong performance from game one, by going 2-3 in game two with a double.
Â
Jayvien Joesph showed off the arm throwing out a runner trying to stretch a single into a double, with a frozen rope from the left field fence. And Joesph showed off his athleticism by making an all-out diving catch to end the top of the 7th inning.
Â
Jayden Saylor and
Chris Huerta had shutout innings in relief work, each just allowing one hit during their time on the mound.
Â
