Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Eagles returned to Tom Heath Field for staff appreciation day and to open a series against the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
GAME 1
Jill Dickson spun her second
no-hitter of the season and career, the first against Texas A&M International, with a ten-strikeout performance against Eastern New Mexico in game one.
Dickson opened the game by retiring the side in order while striking out two of the ten Greyhounds she retired in that fashion. And she did the same in the second inning, facing the minimum through two innings to go along with four Ks.
Whitney Walde got the Eagles' first hit in the bottom of the second, but that was all for the Eagles in the frame.
Two more strikeouts in the top of the third and three straight fly outs in the fourth kept Jill at just one over the minimum faced through four innings.
Hannah Pate and
Boo Robinson singled in the bottom of the fourth, and a Walde walk had the bases loaded with two outs, but ENMU got a ground ball to get out of the inning.
Kristen Whitehouse opened the door for OC to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff double, and
Aaliyah Brown followed that with an RBI double for her team-high 37th RBI of the season.
With the 1-0 lead in hand, Jill got her 9th and 10th strikeout and a pop-up to win game one for Oklahoma Christian in a dominant performance. Dickson faced just two of the minimum while adding win number sixteen to her freshman campaign.
GAME 2
Payton Foster started game two and kept the Greyhounds without a hit in her first two innings in the circle. And she faced the minimum in the third inning after a leadoff single led to a picture-perfect strike 'Em out, throw 'Em out double play.
Boo Robinson reached on a walk in the bottom of the third, and
Kate Bradley entered the game as a pinch runner.
Chloe Woodward moved Bradley into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, and a groundout brought Kate to third base. With Bradley on third base,
Brooklin Bain worked a walk, and the fourth pitch got away, allowing Bradley to score on a wild pitch.
The duo of Whitehouse and Brown worked again in game two, as Whitehouse reached base on a single and stole second base, and Brown brought her home on an RBI single.
OC took a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning when ENMU cut the lead in half after two OC errors led to an RBI single. And the Greyhounds took the lead in the 7th on a sacrifice fly RBI and a bases-loaded hit by pitch.
Boo Robinson singled and reached third on a two-base fielding error, and
Kiley Brewster pinch-ran for Robinson.
Marissa Powell pinch-hit with the opportunity to tie the game and hit a hard-hit ball between third base and shortstop, but the shortstop snagged it and made a nice play to catch Brewster off third base.
