Eagles Battle Back-And-Forth With Bison, Before Falling Late

Box Score Oklahoma City, Okla. - Men's Basketball (2-3) conceded its first home loss against their out-of-conference foe, Harding University (3-3), during the Saturday afternoon matchup.

First Half 
The Eagles fought hard in a back-and-forth first half that saw 10 lead changes. 

After falling behind to the Bison early, led by KeyIn McBride and HU's 7 threes on a ridiculous 70% shooting, the Eagles found a way to claw back. 

Nickolas Traylor gave the Eagles the spark they needed as his strong defensive efforts translated to offense, recording 10 off the bench. OC would go into the half up 44-41.

At the Break
  • Both teams lit it up from three with the Eagles hitting 3 threes on 50% shooting and the Bison hitting 7 threes on 70% shooting. 
  • OC did a great job of getting to the line in the first half where they made 19 of 21, shooting 90.5% from the stripe. 
  • OC just won the rebounding battle as they outrebounded the Bison 16-5. 

Second Half
KeyIn McBride stayed hot from three, hitting two back-to-back threes right out of halftime. The Eagles finally were able to shore up the three point scorching, but then found themselves in foul trouble after forcing the Bison into the paint. HU found themselves in the bonus just five minutes into the game. 

Javon Grant got minutes early in the second half and made them count, recording 6 points that would push the eagles lead to 68-60 at the 11:47 mark. 

Shortly after, the Bison chipped away thanks to 16 appearances at the line in the second half. They regained the lead 73-72 at the 8:30 mark.

After a Technical foul on Harding's Robert Chougkaz, the Eagles went on a run led by Javon Grant. Grant recorded a crucial steal and three pointer that helped push the Eagles from down 2 to up 7 with 3 minutes left.

The Bison then came down and scored a timely three pointer, followed up by an and-1 trimming the OC lead to 2 points with 32.7 seconds left. KeyIn McBride hit a tough three over a great contest to steal the lead and the game.

  • Nickolas Traylor led the Eagles in scoring with 13 PTS on 66.7% shooting.
  • Jovan Savic was the Eagles leading rebounder with 7 REB & 7 PTS.
  • Another key contributor off the bench was Javon Grant who recorded 9 PTS, 3 AST, & 1 STL.
