Rainy Day Matinee Goes Way of Buffs

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Men's soccer was back at Eagle Soccer Field for its first back-to-back in several weeks for a matchup with West Texas A&M with the possibility for major postseason implications.

Oklahoma Christian (3-7-6, 2-3-2) came into the match with eight points and sat in fourth place, trailing West Texas A&M (7-4-4, 4-1-2) with eleven points and sitting in second place in the Lone Star Conference. A win for OC would tie them with WT for second place and potentially Eastern New Mexico, pending their result tonight.

WHAT WENT DOWN
  • Both teams came out playing very physically to open the Wednesday afternoon match, as strong winds and some intermittent rain made for a tightly contested defensive battle.
  • Each team struggled to dial it in as both WT and OC took a collective 11 shots in the first half, with just one on goal by OC's Joep Claassen. Both teams entered halftime scoreless.
  • Players were met with some light rain at the start of the 2nd half, leading to some errant plays by both teams. OC was able to sneak past the back line of the defense early on with a crafty move by Elliot Forrestier, but OC missed on its second opportunity with the pass a touch behind Jacob Carter.
  • OC played a sharp defensive game but surrendered the shutout to the Buffs' strong push late in the 83rd minute. WT took the 1-0 victory.

NOTES
  • With the loss, OC awaits Eastern New Mexico's match tonight as it determines their conference standing. OC remains at eight points, while WT earns three points, putting them at fourteen.
  • Joep Claassen earns his 6th shot on goal for the season, adding to OC's total, which sits in the top four of the LSC.

UP NEXT
  • The Eagles hit the road this Saturday, October 28th, to take on the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds at 8 p.m.
