Laredo, Texas - The Oklahoma Christian Lady Eagles hit the road for the first time in 2023 for a matchup against Texas A&M International, which is currently No. 8 in the South-Central Region poll.
The Dustdevils started hot, taking an 8-2 lead, but layups from
Brooklin Bain and
Olivia Travis, and a
Kendall Brown 3-pointer spurred a 7-2 run for OC to cut the lead to 10-9.
Daijah Torns drained a three to end the quarter for the Eagles as TAMIU took a 16-12 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, the Dustdevils extended their lead to nine at 21-12, but the Eagles responded with nine straight points to bring the game to 21-20 with just under five minutes to go in the half. TAMIU ended the half up 29-24 after a quick run. The Eagles were led in the quarter by Bain and Torns with four points each. Bain had 8 points to go with 6 rebounds at the half, and Torns chimed in with 7 points and 2 steals.
The third quarter saw the Eagles trail by as much as twelve, but
Nakia Cullom and
Brooklyn Long each scored 5 points to rally the Eagles and cut the lead back down to five at 47-42 heading into the fourth quarter.
Kate Bradley opened the fourth quarter with a three-ball that TAMIU matched, but buckets from Bain and Cullom cut the lead down to one at 50-49 with 5:46 to play. Down the stretch, TAMIU made two layups,
Kate Bradley scored on a layup for OC, and TAMIU held on to win 54-51.
The Lady Eagles will continue their road trip with a matchup at Texas A&M Kingsville on Saturday at 1 p.m. before returning to the Nest for two games next week.
