Wichita Falls, Texas – The Lady Eagles' incredible fourth quarter is not enough as the Mustangs win the overtime thriller, 71-67.
The Lady Eagles started the game leading in the first quarter 15 to 10, thanks to the 8 points scored by #12 Brookin Bain. OC led the way in the first quarter due to their rebounding efforts. The Lady Eagles led the first quarter with rebounds 10 to 9. Helping the rebounding efforts were the Lady Eagles forcing the Mustangs to shoot less than 30% from the field.
As the Eagles entered the second quarter, they extended their lead to 5 by the layup by #24
Daijah Torns. As the game went back and forth during the first portion of the second quarter, Midwestern State began to get things going and would take a 34-22 lead at halftime.
Starting in the third quarter, the Lady Eagles came out hot and went on a 6-0 run in just over a minute. After this run, OC continued to fight, grabbing rebounds, and gaining some quick points off layups to trim the lead to 10. With 2:36 left in the third quarter, the Eagles would cut the lead down to 5 with a three from
Kate Bradley, her fourth 3-pointer of the day. As the quarter came to a close and the Eagles were only down seven until the Mustangs would put in three free throws to expand the lead to 10 once again.
Through the fourth quarter, the Eagles clawed their way back into the game. With 2:45 remaining,
Trinity Dobbs would put in a bucket, draw the foul, and make the and-1 opportunity to cut the score to 54-57 in favor of the Mustangs. Then
Jordan Francisco would put in a free throw to make it a 2-point game. The quarter went back and forth as both teams seemed determined to prevent the other from winning the game.
Kate Bradley would put in two free throws, and all of a sudden it became a 58-59 ballgame with less than 50 seconds left.
Kia White would get a steal, and
Brooklin Bain would put in the basket to go up 60-59 with 38 seconds remaining. Griggs would put in a layup for Midwestern State with 20 seconds to go to take the lead 60-61. Then
Jordan Francisco would hit a huge 3-pointer with 17 seconds to go up 63-61. MSU would put in another layup with 7 seconds to go, sending the game into overtime tied at 63.
In overtime, the teams would continue to trade baskets with one another. With just under a minute,
Brooklin Bain would make the game 67, all before the Mustangs would find a way to score with 33 seconds remaining. After a couple of free throws, the Mustangs would dribble the ball out, and the Eagles would fall to the Mustangs by a final score of 67-71.
