Volleyball defeats Western New Mexico in four sets, goes 2-0 on the weekend

Oklahoma City, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian volleyball competed in its first Lone Star Conference match in the Nest this season and defeated Western New Mexico, 3-1.

Set one was a wild one, the set included 23 ties or lead changes, and Western New Mexico at one point held a 16-11 lead. But the Eagles rallied from down five points to win the set, 28-26. Peighton Serda had five kills in the set and helped with the set with back-to-back kills.

Set two didn't need any extra points after the Mustangs tied the set at nine, the Eagles went on a 9-0 to lead 18-9 and eventually win the set, 25-17. Olivia Hessman had eight of her twenty-six assists in the set.

Set three was even more of a wild ride than the first set. While set three only saw 19 ties or lead changes, each team led by five points at one time in the set. WNMU held its largest lead at 19-14 before OC rallied to tie the set at 23. But fourteen points later, WNMU won the set, 31-29.

Set four was almost identical to set two, but this time Oklahoma Christian jumped out to an 11-1 lead before eventually winning the set 25-17 and the match 3-1.

    - Morgan Demuth: 7 kills, 6 blocks
    - Kelsie Schiefelbein: 6 kills, .417 hitting %, 4 blocks

    - Olivia Hessman: 26 assists (three straight matches with 20+ assists 

The Eagles are back in the Nest on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Texas A&M International.
