#17 Eagles draw against the Buffs in final non-conference matchup

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The #17 Eagles (6-1-2) returned to Eagle Soccer Field to take on the Buffs of West Texas A&M (2-2-4), who has been in and out of the top 25 this season.

The match was very physical, with thirty-two fouls being called, with four cards given out, two to each team. The physical tone caused both teams to take a while to settle in, but the Buffs, after not getting a shot off until the 27th minute, drew a penalty kick in the 29th. Bryan Martinez drew the foul, and Kenny Brown finished the penalty kick giving WT the 1-0 lead.

The Eagles held possession for most of the match, out possessing the Buffs, 67-33% in the first half and 57-43%. OC methodically built its attack over the match, working the ball well from the back line to the mid-field and back. It felt like only a matter of time until they connected with the front line for a goal, and in the 77th minute, that time came.

A West Texas foul gave Oklahoma Christian a free-kick from about 30-yards out, and Alejandro Colom, sent a perfect ball into the box that found Alexandre Picoto Rodrigues on the far post to head it in and tie the match.

The Buffs found a burst of offense, but goalkeeper Fynn Koerner made two of his three saves in the final 10 minutes of play to seal the draw for the Eagles.

#17 Oklahoma Christian will kickoff Lone Star Conference play next Saturday at 7 p.m. against #4 Midwestern State.
