Women's Soccer Kregg Matthews

A battle to the final second

Oklahoma City, Okla. - Women's soccer left it all on the line and maybe behind the line, against Central Oklahoma (UCO) at Eagle Soccer Field on Thursday night.

In front of a huge crowd, the Eagles (0-1) outshot the Bronchos (1-0) 12-9 in a match that made the most of every second.

UCO took an early lead in the 16th minute, but both teams settled in and another goal wasn't scored until the Brochos scored on a penalty kick in the 50th minute.

OC's offense came alive in the second half. It appeared they had a couple of sure goals when Lovelace had a great look, and Ceresola sent a laser on goal from 35-yards out, but the UCO keeper made two fantastic saves to hold the score at 2-0.

Lovelace and the Eagles finally broke through in the 78th minute as Kyla converted on a penalty kick after drawing a foul on a great run into the box.

With UCO holding a 2-1 lead the Eagles brought everybody up on a series of corner kicks in the final minutes. And, on one opportunity, it appeared they had scored the tying goal with seconds to spare. But the ultimate call was that the ball didn't fully cross the line.

The Eagles will look to bounce back at home next Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they take on Southern Nazarene.
