Wichita, Kansas - Men's soccer kicked off their season against Newman yesterday for the second straight year, and two years in a row they have a season-opening win against the Jets.
Â
Last year's 5-0 season-opening win was outdone this year by a 7-1 win on the road in Wichita. Five Oklahoma Christian (1-0) players scored last night, including newcomers Danny Gutierrez and
Louis Bassett with two goals each.
Joep Claassen, Alexandre Picoto, and
Luke McElhinny each scored once as well at Newman (0-1)
Â
"We are very happy with the overall performance of the team. We were able to win at a very challenging venue which is always a positive." coach Sowerby said in an interview after the game. We will enjoy the night and then prepare for Saturday's game which is a very quick turnaround."
Â
That game is tomorrow at 3 P.M. against conference foe Eastern New Mexico in their first match since 2019, in a non-conference matchup.
