TYLER, Texas (April 15, 2022) – Texas-Tyler pitchers limited Oklahoma Christian to seven hits and one run over 14 innings and swept a doubleheader from the Eagles 4-0 and 5-1 on Friday at Irwin Field.
Texas-Tyler (24-15, 24-15 Lone Star Conference) solidified its hold on fifth place in the league baseball standings and clinched the win in the four-game series. Despite the two losses, OC (18-26, 18-25) remained in seventh place in the LSC.
The top eight teams in the final regular-season standings will qualify for the LSC postseason tournament. OC has five conference games left – at noon on Saturday at Texas-Tyler in the series finale and a four-game series at home against Arkansas-Fort Smith next week.
Texas-Tyler starter Harrison Lee (4-1) pitched five innings of no-hit ball in Friday's first game before giving way to reliever Nick Oslovar, who allowed three hits in two innings but preserved the shutout for the Patriots. OC pitchers
Jacob Mattox (2-3) and
Chase Berberich combined to surrender only five hits against Texas-Tyler.
Cade Watson's two-run single in the third inning provided the Patriots with all the offense they needed and he added another run-scoring single during a two-run fourth inning.
In the second game, OC took a 1-0 lead against Texas-Tyler starter Nick Niebur (3-3) when Chase Westervelt's double to right-center field scored
Cole Lee, who was hit by a pitch to start the game. But Niebur allowed only three more hits and pitched a complete game for the Patriots.
The Patriots scored in each of the first four innings against OC starter
Kyle Higgins (2-4) and reliever
Hayden Boyd and built a 5-1 lead. Dylan Blomquist had two RBIs for Texas-Tyler.
