Texas A&M-Commerce completes sweep of Eagles

OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 5, 2022) – Texas A&M-Commerce had to hang on for a last-second win over Oklahoma Christian in northeast Texas in November. The Lions made sure there was no such drama on Saturday in their rematch with OC.

OC led by six points in the early stages, but the Lions seized the advantage with 7:29 left in the first half and never trailed again, pulling away for an 87-66 win in the Eagles' Nest.

Moun'Tae Edmundson scored a season-high 20 points to go with six assists for OC (7-14, 3-7 Lone Star Conference) and Nyk Madison added 14 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots. The Eagles shot a respectable 48.1 percent (25 of 52) from the field, but TAMUC (15-4, 7-3), ranked fifth in the South Central Region, sizzled at 56.9 percent (33 of 58).

Four Lions scored in double figures, led by Demarcus Demonia, who had 20 points and eight rebounds, and Clashon Gaffney and Jairus Roberson, who had 15 points each. Alphonso Willis added 14 points and eight assists for the Lions.

Two free throws by OC's Justin Nimmer at the 7:48 mark of the first half tied the game at 23-23 before TAMUC scored the next seven points. The Lions led 40-33 at halftime and OC came no closer in the second half.

Unless OC plays TAMUC in the LSC tournament, the game against the Lions figures to be the last for OC for the foreseeable future, as TAMUC is moving into the Division I Southland Conference for the 2022-23 season.

The Eagles will be on the road next week, visiting St. Mary's (Texas) on Thursday and St. Edward's (Texas) on Saturday.
