Blackburn, Bain post double-doubles; OC falls at Midwestern

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Feb. 26, 2022) – Kendall Blackburn and Brooklin Bain each recorded a double-double on Saturday afternoon for Oklahoma Christian at Midwestern State (Texas), but their combined efforts weren't quite enough to overcome the Lady Eagles' shooting woes.

OC shot 29.6 percent (16 of 54) from the field and went cold at inopportune times while falling 71-56 to the Mustangs at D.L. Ligon Coliseum in the Lady Eagles' season finale. OC (2-21, 2-12 Lone Star Conference) did not qualify for the LSC postseason tournament, which will begin next week.

Blackburn, a center from Edmond, Okla., playing in her final game at OC, posted the fourth double-double of her career and the third of her senior season, finishing with 15 points to go with a career-high 14 rebounds. Bain, a second-year freshman forward from Comanche, Okla., had 13 points and 11 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the season. She finished the season averaging 16.9 points and exactly 10.0 rebounds per game.

Freshmen Bradley and Lexy Borgstadt each scored 10 points for OC, but the Lady Eagles couldn't match the shooting of Midwestern State (12-11, 6-7). The Mustangs hit 7 of 14 3-point shots in the first half and from the field, they finished 24 of 59 (40.7 percent) for the game.

Midwestern State's 3-point shooting allowed the Mustangs to build a 33-20 lead with 4:08 left in the second quarter and they were up 37-28 at halftime.

The Lady Eagles twice pulled within four points in the third quarter, the latter time at 45-41 after Blackburn split a pair of free throws with 2:13 left. But those free throws came during a stretch in which OC didn't record a basket for more than seven minutes, allowing the Mustangs to rebuild their lead. The Mustangs led 50-41 going into the fourth quarter and OC came no closer than eight points after that.

Hannah Reynolds led Midwestern State with 24 points (on 10-of-19 shooting) and nine rebounds while Morgan Lenahan added 14 points. Lenahan and Sheridan Bostic (11 points) each made three 3-pointers for the Mustangs.
